History

Dr Devine & Partners is an old established practice with a history going back as far as the late 1800s or early 1900s.  Dr Adams started the Practice at Greenhill House in Edgeley and handed over to Dr Berry who used to make house calls on his bicycle!  Dr Crabtree joined Dr Berry sometime later.  They only used to see private patients in Bramhall and had their premises at 2 Bramhall Park Road.  It was reputed that when Dr Berry became ill the local people, who were all patients, put straw on the road to deaden the sound of carriages so not to disturb him.

Just after the war Dr Austin joined the Practice and in 1950 Dr Marshall. By this time the NHS had been formed and seeing patients and dispensing lotions and potions from Bramhall Park Road had become too cramped.

One of our patients Mrs Fergusson has emailed us with the following information  "Around 1959 when I first became a patient, I seem to remember Dr Chapman, he was quite a colourful character, he drove a posh coupe ( red I think ) and wore a bowler hat. He was a gentleman and always tipped his hat if he saw you outside.
He once asked me if I would like to clean the surgery. I lived in Bramhall at that time and I was trying to turn the builders discarded rubbish into a garden, I had to say "no thank you" to that. He was a very nice man"

Dr Marshall bought our existing Bramhall premises.  He also lived there and had a small surgery and waiting room.  Over the years other doctors came and went, Dr Beaumont, Snowden, Wilkinson and in more recent times Dr Ridehalgh, Ansell, Hutchinson, Miller, Jones,  Gill and Whittaker

In 1978 the Edgeley branch of the Practice moved into a new purpose built health centre in Shaw Heath and we are still in residence today.  At the Bramhall branch in 1988 when Dr Marshall retired the remaining doctors bought the house from him and converted it into the surgery premises we see today.
